Current Research
My research interests to date have focussed on 1) characterization of
endogenous pain inhibitory systems 2) the neurobehavioural and neuroendocrine
response of
animals to stress, and 2) the interactions between neuro-endocrine
and immune systems in relation to stress and pathology, Specific research
interest areas are:
1) Psychoneuroimmunology/neuroimmunology:
AIM: To understand the nature of dynamic interactions between the brain
and the immune system, and their significance in determining resistance
to, and progression
of, disease pathology. Specific research underway using models of cancer
and HIV
2) Neuroscience:
AIM: To investigate the effects of immune cytokines on neural functioning
AIM: To characterize the endogenous pain inhibitory mechanisms, their
activation by stress, and modulation by psychological processes.Possible
links between
immune and pain inhibitory systems.
